Leaving BiciBurro in the morning, we head north, taking one of the oldest and most enjoyable Caminos Reales (roads constructed during the Colonial Era) out of San Miguel. We pass through the community of Marroquin de Abajo, through the beautiful scenery of the surrounding valleys on a single-track to Rancho Viejo. Then we visit the spectacular Sanctuary of Atotonilco, which is famous for religious art.

La Gruta-Cruz del Palmar-Atotonilco-La Gruta
30 Kms - 6 hours - Easy to moderate
Leaving BiciBurro in the morning in the BurroMobile (a Eurovan equipped with bike racks) we arrive at the Sanctuary of Atotonilco in 15 minutes. From there we head west on a picturesque trail through lovely scenery and rustic Mexican communities to Cruz de Palmar.

Railroad Station- San Miguel Viejo- Atotonilco
17 Kms - 5 hours - Easy to moderate
We leave BiciBurro in the morning, traveling west in the BurroMobile. At the railroad station we begin our tour and after 2 kms we arrive at San Miguel Viejo, founded by Friar Juan de San Miguel in 1542. From there the Rio Laja and spectacular woods lead us on an enjoyable road to Atotonilco. On the way we visit the early-18th-century Chapel of San Miguelito.

Pozos

Leaving Bici-burro at 9:00 in the morning in the Burro-Mobile we drive 50 minutes to a ghost town. Settled in 1565, when it was called Palmar de Vega, it was later it was re-named Ciudada Porfirio Diaz and now it is called Mineral de San Pedro de Pozos (the mine at San Pedro of the wells) or more simply, Pozos.

Presa Allende- La Huerta

We leave BiciBurro in the morning heading for one of the largest dams in the center of Mexico. We ride on an abandoned rail bed, passing through a 500-meter tunnel. Concentration needed! Then we will ride through a canyon filled with Mexican flora, next to the Rio Laja.

Santa Rosa to Hacienda de Trancasa

Departing BiciBurro at 8:00 am, in 90 minutes we are in a spectacular oak woods in the Sierra de Quanajuato. To energize us, we will enjoy both a Mexican breakfast and a breathtaking vista at the Restaurante La Sierra. Then—cycle, cycle we start with an eight kilometer descent through a beautiful forest on the 17th-century Camino Real. This road was used by the Spanish to transport silver from Guanajuato to Mexico City.

Hacienda de Trancas to Atotonilo

Leaving BiciBurro at 8:00am in the Burro-Mobile we drive to the Hacienda de Trancas and from there we ride towards Dolores Hidalgo. Halfway, we stop at the presa del Gallinero for a spectacular view. Arriving in Dolores Hidalgo (the birthplace of Mexican Independence), we visit the Cathedral of "Nuestra Senora de los Dolores." Then, joining the Ruta de la Independencia. we head towards the 16th-century Hacienda "La Erre," the first hacienda built in Northern Guanajuato.

We leave BiciBurro in the Burro-Mobile at 9:00am and in 15 minutes we arrive at the foot of the Los Pichachos mountains to begin our hike through one of the most beautiful forests in the region at an altitude of 2200-2600 meters above sea level.
